PART ONE: No one buys a product .... People Buy Benefits
I know you are wondering, what is this guy talking about?.
I once had a Boss, a Managing Director (I was the Sales and Marketing Manager of the company), at strategy meetings, all I hear are, we-we or me-me opinions, such as;
-How our products are so great, ignoring how the customer perceive our products,
-How we can best improvise, using parts and accessories that can be easily sourced.
-How we can reduce cost, and sacrifice a little bit of this or that, maybe quality or content.
Let me break your heart, the customer does not care about you,
The customer does not really care about what you are selling.
ALL the customer care about is, what they will benefit when they buy your products and or services.
Customers think of what they stand to gain if they buy,
Will it be worth it?
Is it of good quality?
When you understand this concept, you will adapt your business to a benefit-based business.
EXAMPLE: Selling a Microwave to a Nigerian
Difference between product-based Selling and benefits-based Selling
PRODUCT BASED SELLING
-Our Microwave is very affordable
-Good Quality
-Very Durable
-White colour
-Rubber stand
All these are important, yes, but please focus on the peculiar benefits of the product to the Customer
BENEFIT BASED SELLING
-Get your Food very hot in seconds, just as you like it, even if it’s straight from the freezer
-Our Microwave keeps you healthy, it retains the nutrients and minerals in your food
-Our microwave saves you money, no need to waste your Gas or kerosene.
-Our Microwave saves your gas, now you have more gas for cooking
-Saves you the stress of scrubbing and washing burnt pots, when you warm with Gas or kerosene Stove.
You see!! There is a huge difference`
Focusing on the benefits of your products and services will increase your sales
